BEFORE STARTING KORLYM

There are 5 steps to consider before starting1

Step 1: Rule Out.

Exclude pregnancy—Korlym should not be taken by women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or by those who are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Rule out contraindications

Step 2: Check.

Check blood potassium levels—Hypokalemia should be corrected before initiating Korlym therapy

Check drug-drug interactions—Corcept’s SPARK Program can provide individualized support to assist with drug interactions

Step 3: Evaluate.

Evaluate baseline parameters, such as:

  • Hyperglycemia/type 2 diabetes

  • Glucose-control medications

  • Weight

Step 4: Inform.

Inform patients of cortisol-withdrawal side effects, such as nausea, fatigue, headache, and reduction in glucose levels

Inform comanaging healthcare providers about side effects that may occur during treatment with Korlym

Step 5: Discuss.

Discuss Korlym initiation, titration, and concomitant-medication adjustment

Discuss continuous monitoring of blood potassium, blood sugar, and blood pressure throughout the Korlym treatment journey

Discuss treatment goals with the patient, including symptom control and reduced negative effects of cortisol
